An outer seal consists of several bronze seal rings, each with a chamber containing an elastic, V-shaped sealing ring. These seals rotate with the propeller shaft and seal axially against the seal ring. Depending on the mounting direction of the sealing rings, this principle acts as a water-retaining or lubricant-retaining device.
In an outer seal, two sealing rings are usually oil- or grease-resistant. The other rings are water-retaining. Another special type of 'simmering' is often used for even greater security.
For optimal propeller shaft protection and long seal life, your propeller shaft is fitted with a bronze wear bushing. This thin-walled bushing prevents abrasion of the propeller shaft if the rings possibly slip. It also prevents corrosion under the rings. The bushing is easy to replace.
We supply our outer seals to all markets. They are familiar with all inland shipyards and our brand is growing rapidly in the marine sector. Feel free to challenge us!
De Waal supplies outer seals to all markets.
In newbuilds, our drawing office takes your ship's hull as a starting point. To this end, we design an optimal propeller shaft installation with sufficient space to apply our sealing system. Contact between the outer water and the steel propeller shaft is completely prevented. The seal runs right up to the propeller. The outside water has no corrosive effect on the propeller shaft. You get an optimal, sophisticated sealing system tailored to your ship.
Would you like to apply an outer seal to your existing ship or vessel in addition to an inner seal? If so, feel free to contact us for further advice. Bear in mind that with a 'closed system', it is best to convert the mostly grease-lubricated installation to fluid grease or oil lubrication. For this, we modify the bearing, clean up the propeller shaft, and fit a wear bushing to the shaft. For proper lubrication, we attach an oil replenishment tank or we build an integral grease circulation pump system. Of course, our options also include conversion to water lubrication. Finally, we fit the new outer seal. In the end, you are environmentally friendly and sustainable on the road. You comply with the latest requirements of the ROSR regulations.
Good to know that our outer seals are interchangeable 1:1 with those of other well-known brands. If you are not satisfied with your current sealbrand, feel free to call us. We will gladly fit an original Stuwa® seal. Many ships have gone before you. In the end, you will always be cheaper, with much less maintenance and expensive spare parts. Guaranteed.
